How Coffee Helped Grow Healing This March: Honorguard’s Monthly Giveback

March Giveback Spotlight: The Vital Roots Foundation 🌱

March has come and gone, and we’re proud to share the latest chapter in our mission to give back.

Each month, Honorguard Coffee supports a nonprofit making a tangible difference in the lives of veterans. For March, that organization was The Vital Roots Foundation, a powerful initiative that uses horticultural therapy to help veterans heal through connection with the land.

Thanks to you — the Honorguard community — we raised $75.60 to support their work.

Why Vital Roots?

Vital Roots was founded by retired Army First Sergeant John Vargas (not Sergeant Major — I’ve been saying it wrong, and John kindly corrected me). After retiring from the Army, John found his own healing in the soil. What started as a personal garden grew into a regenerative oasis — a place of peace, reflection, and recovery.

John’s garden is unlike anything I’ve seen. No chemicals. No shortcuts. Just nature, working in harmony. He uses companion planting, natural fertilizers, and biological methods for pest control. Every corner of it speaks to intention, respect for the land, and the kind of quiet wisdom that only comes from deep, lived experience.

It’s not just gardening. It’s therapy.

A Shared Mission: Healing Veterans and the Earth

Supporting Vital Roots feels especially aligned with one of Honorguard’s deeper goals — reducing our environmental impact. We’re already working with farmers who use regenerative practices, and being connected to someone like John inspires me to go even further.

There’s something sacred in working with the land. It slows you down. It teaches patience. It reconnects you to something older than pain — something rooted in care and creation. That’s what John is offering to veterans through Vital Roots. And that’s why we’re proud to support his work, not just financially, but as allies, advisors, and fellow builders of something better.

Every Bag Matters

Whether you bought a single bag or gifted coffee to a friend, you made this possible.

We may be small right now — but this mission is growing. You are helping us build something real: tangible support for the veteran community, one cup at a time.

So thank you.

Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for choosing coffee with a purpose. And thank you for continuing to believe in a world where healing and hope can start with something as simple as a morning ritual.

Keep being amazing.
Keep being Honorguard.

☕️ With gratitude,
— Steven
